Nick Juliano and Elana Schor report in eenews.net that the U.S. Senate’s leading energy efficiency advocates have finalized the latest version of their marquee legislation with 10 new provisions, including an extra title adjusting existing regulations covering electronics, green buildings, the use of fossil energy by the federal government and other matters, according to an early draft obtained by E&E Daily.
Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Robert Portman (R-Ohio) plan to reintroduce the bill tomorrow (Feb. 27). It is a significant step to return their bill to the floor, and aides to the two senators told outside stakeholders in an email last night that the additional amendments, most of which have at least one Republican co-sponsor, give them more than 60 votes for the bill — a key threshold necessary to end filibusters.
“This new legislation will provide more energy savings, more job creation and more CO2 reductions, according to independent analysis,” the aides say in their email, which was obtained along with the draft legislation and summary material from multiple sources. “It has no mandates, remains fully offset and will provide close to $10 million in mandatory savings.” read more….
